Virtual Villager 3 help!!!?

I have solved most of the puzzles but my chief has died and I've gone through 60 people with no new chief!!I know I can try kids, but no luck yet. I need to get the pearl to the clam, but am stuck. Can anyone help? Thanks much for any help
