Mp3 to all compatibility CD or DVD ?

I got these Mp3s (audio) of books read aloud. ---pretty nice to listen to as I fall asleep....problem is everytime I try to burn a CD or DVD... it never works at home... my home DVD is a cheap one but works ok...and normally plays most any Audio CD or DVD movie. I do have NERO-8 and have followed all the steps, each time trying a different type of BURN. Once it even converted the files to .cda files (whatever the heck that is) it didn't play, I know that.....Some time I get various errors like ( compatibility with data burn or audio or dvd disc burn )and it will often will not burn. Sometimes it seems ok and BURNS OK, but even then it won't work when played at home. Anyone know what might be the problem? if there is a step by step tutorial anywhere on line, please point me to it. I am pretty good with PCs, but you know alot of errors/selections on types of formats/disc, or types of encoding in Nero are unknown to me. it makes it pretty tough to figure out. Thanks
